An Easy Matcha & Banana Cookie Parfait for Otsukimi
Something a little different for your next cookie break. With Otsukimi coming up, I thought I’d share a simple parfait idea using our Matcha & Macadamia cookies, banana and yoghurt. Just three ingredients, no baking.
Hi everyone, it’s Jenny!
What does this parfait have to do with Otsukimi?
Otsukimi is Japan’s autumn moon-viewing tradition. It’s a time to appreciate the moon, often with seasonal foods and rice dumplings called tsukimi dango.
This parfait is our own playful take on the occasion. A round banana slice on top becomes the moon, with our Matcha & Macadamia cookies layered underneath. It’s an Otsukimi-inspired treat you can make at home, rather than a traditional dish.
With Silver Week coming up too, it’s something easy to try over the long weekend. No oven needed. Just layer everything in a glass.
When are Silver Week and Otsukimi in 2026?
Silver Week is Japan’s September holiday break. This year, Respect for the Aged Day falls on 21 September, followed by a public holiday on the 22nd and the Autumnal Equinox holiday on the 23rd. If you have weekends off, that makes a five-day break from Saturday 19 to Wednesday 23 September.
This year’s Otsukimi falls on Friday 25 September, just after the Silver Week holiday break.

The banana adds sweetness, the yoghurt brings a little tang, and the Matcha & Macadamia cookies add flavour and texture.
Use whichever small glasses you have at home. The layers don’t need to be perfect.
Ingredients (for 2 small glasses; approximate quantities)

- 1 banana
You’ll also need two clean glasses and a spoon. Keep the yoghurt refrigerated until you’re ready to use it.

1. Prepare the banana and cookies
Peel the banana and cut it into rounds, setting aside two slices for the moons on top. Break the cookies into bite-sized pieces and save a few for decorating.
2. Build your layers
Divide the yoghurt, cookie pieces and banana between the two glasses, layering them in that order. Remember to save some yoghurt for the top.
3. Add your banana moons
Finish each glass with yoghurt, a banana round and the cookie pieces you saved. Your parfaits are ready.
Enjoy soon after assembling, while the cookies still have their texture.
